Chapter 3

I gave Mia Walsh a complicated look. This woman was my personal kryptonite.

“I guess I’m just too charming,” Mia said, preening. But when she turned and saw me holding the child, she shrieked, “Linda, whose kid is that?”

Owen frantically tried to explain to her. “He’s my son. Mia, just let me explain.”

Mia looked like she’d been struck by lightning, suddenly clutching her chest.

“Owen, you had a child with her behind my back? You could have refused to marry me, but why would you betray me like this?”

“Is that why you would never touch me? Because of them?”

Seeing how devastated she was, Owen rushed over to comfort her. “Mia, it’s not what you think. This was before we got married.”

“She was terrified of being poor and didn’t want to lose me, so she had the kid to trap me. I only just found out about it today.”
